As a dance artist, nature informs my creative process in ways both subtle and immense. Nature is the greatest art that exists… but you have to know how to look at it. In its shapes, its pauses, its rhythms, and its constant transformation, I find my deepest creative source. In both my dance and my personal practice, it becomes deeply inspiring…showing me how to flow like water, root like trees, breathe like wind, and evolve like the seasons.
Dancing with the mantón always feels like an extensions of my body. It’s not just a prop, it is breath, Aire, prayer, ancestry, and a living partner on stage. This moment is from a performance with @surabhiensemble – our original Indo-Afro-Arab-Flamenco ensemble, a circle of global artists weaving rhythms, traditions, and lineages into one shared heartbeat. Here we journey through La Tarara, a classic flamenco letra that has traveled across generations, Gypsy, folk, playful, ritual. Beneath its lightness lies a deep, ancient pulse. @ronniemalley voice and the warm, resonant oud (laúd árabe) carry the Arabic–Andalusian roots (Al-Andaluz) that helped shape flamenco centuries ago. At the same time, the unmistakable strings of the Spanish guitar, played by Carlo Basile, anchor the music in its modern flamenco landscape. Oud and guitar together… Arab-Andalusian memory meeting contemporary Spanish soul. The mantón moves… and something inside me moves too.
